Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck may be experiencing some tension in their marriage.

The “On the Floor” singer and Deep Water actor rekindled their romance in 2021 after splitting up in 2004. After going public with their relationship the same year, they got married in a small ceremony in July 2022.

However, in early 2024, it seemed their marriage was on the rocks after they hadn't been seen together for over a month. Sources told PEOPLE in May 2024 that Lopez and Affleck’s marriage “is not in the best place at the moment” as they were living separate lives.

“She likes to open her heart to her fans and to the world,” a music source said of Lopez. “He is more introspective and private. This has been difficult day-to-day.”

In February, Lopez was busy promoting her visual album, This Is Me... Now: A Love Story, an accompaniment to her new album This Is Me…Now. At the premiere, she spoke about how Affleck encouraged her throughout the process, believing in her as she funded the project herself.

“I was like, ‘I don’t write, I don’t do this.’ He was like, ‘You do, you write, you direct, you produce, you choreograph, you do all the things,’ ” she said of their conversation. “‘Start stepping into that, start owning a little bit of who you are.’ ”

February 27, 2024: Ben Affleck spoke about not wanting a “relationship on social media” in Jennifer Lopez’s documentary

In the accompanying documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, which focused on Affleck’s support for Lopez, the Batman actor explained how he didn’t want his relationship playing out in the public eye.

“Getting back together, I said, ‘Listen, one of the things I don’t want is a relationship on social media,’ ” he said. “Then I sort of realized it’s not a fair thing to ask. It’s sort of like, you’re gonna marry a boat captain and you go, ‘Well, I don’t like the water.’ ”

Two weeks after the March basketball game, Affleck and Lopez stepped out for a day together in New York City. However, their March 30 date was the last time the couple were photographed publicly together for 47 days.

Just a few days after they were first spotted, Affleck and Lopez were once again seen in L.A. The pair were photographed in their car and smiled for the cameras as Affleck picked up Lopez outside the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, Calif.

The same day, they were also seen strolling through the West Hollywood area of Los Angeles, near BOA Steakhouse and Soho House. Affleck's wedding ring could be seen on his left hand.

Amid rumors of tension in their marriage, a source told PEOPLE that Lopez and Affleck's different outlooks on their relationship caused conflict in their union.

"They just have very different approaches when it comes to media attention. Ben hates all attention and it makes him very uncomfortable. Jennifer has always had a different approach," one source said.

Lopez attended the Atlas premiere in Los Angeles solo, sharing a little bit about her character, a driven data analyst, with PEOPLE.

"We are so different because she's like ... doesn't wear any of her emotions. She's so closed off and I am too much emotion sometimes,” she said. “But at the same time we are both very strong and sure of what they feel. At times.”

She continued, “She was very sure. She was like, 'This is what's happening, please listen to me. Please tell me.' And felt very misunderstood at times. I can also relate to that a bit."

May 20, 2024: Jennifer Lopez mentions Ben Affleck during a late-night show appearance

After the Atlas premiere, Lopez appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and name-dropped Affleck while sharing the story of how she first met Barbra Streisand. She shared that Streisand had commented on her engagement ring “at the time, that Ben had given me years ago” (they were engaged in 2002 before calling it off in 2004).
