Football boots are the key to unlocking your elite-level game. Getting the right fit, look and feel will do that. The wrong pair of boots could have you looking like your legs have turned to fresh spaghetti. Your first touch will desert you and your agility will run off with it. Your own preferences are important when it comes to sizing and colour, but three things matter most with new boots: comfort, performance and budget.
This depends on the materials used (either leather or synthetic), the shape of your foot (wide, standard or narrow) and the lockdown (fastening and collar) each model provides. Which surface type do I need?
Choosing the right type of football boot for the surface you play on is super important. It leads directly into performance. It’s obvious that soft ground studs are a no-go on the artificial pitches at 5-a-side. And likewise, astro turf trainers are useless on grass. There are other times where the decision is trickier though. But every boot’s soleplate is scientifically designed for a certain type of pitch.
